Privacy Statement

Privacy and transparency are extremely important to us - by default eGUARD processes everything locally on your machine, and sends nothing externally. That means no third-party processing of your emails, everything is kept safe and secure on your device.

What data do we collect?

eGUARD.app website

When you submit information to this website via webform, we collect the data requested in the webform in order to track and respond to your submissions. We share this information with Squarespace, our online store hosting provider, so that they can provide website services to us.

eGUARD Extension

When you sign up for an eGUARD account we will save your associated e-mail & password. Additionally, we store the following data:

  • Account settings
  • Contact List: This includes only contacts you manually add to your eGUARD account. It does not include contacts synced from linked accounts (e.g., Google contacts), which are accessed and stored locally on your device as described below.

When you link an account (currently "Google" is supported) no google account data (email, name, etc) ever leaves your device - instead we use your google access token on your device, then use it to locally access the following (when the feature is enabled): All Google Workspace data (such as contacts and emails) accessed by eGUARD is processed and stored exclusively on your local device. We employ security measures designed to protect this data within the local environment of the extension and do not transmit this raw Google Workspace data to our servers.

  • Contact list (read-only access, which enables smart contacts feature): Contacts are read from your google account and stored locally on your device, never shared with third parties.
  • Emails (read-only access, which enables enhanced content analysis features): When running AI models tagged "local" (by default a local model is selected on install) to analyse your emails, the content of your mails will never be shared to a third party, nor will it be used to train any AI models.

If you select a "cloud" model, please carefully read the privacy policy of the provider you have selected, links to how your information is shared will clearly be shown.

Currently all supported cloud models are made available via OpenAI, their policy dated June 12, 2024 (as checked by us 16/05/2025) does not use any data sent to them (I.E email contents) to train their models. Please refer to their policy for the most up-to-date information{" "} https://openai.com/consumer-privacy/ {" "} (this link can also be found in the extension settings).

How do we use your data?

If you decide to create an eGUARD account, we will save some data to enable the extension to function across your devices (eGUARD contacts, eGUARD account settings, eGUARD account email & password).

We will use your eGUARD account data to provide you with the services you requested, such as enhanced Gmail integration, email notification, subscriptions & newsletters.

We use your eGUARD account data (eGUARD settings and eGUARD contacts) to provide and personalize your experience with the eGUARD extension and its features. We may also use aggregated, non-identifiable data derived from the use of our services to improve service functionality and understand usage patterns.

Use of Google Workspace API Data for AI/ML Models

eGUARD explicitly affirms that data obtained through Google Workspace APIs is NOT used to develop, improve, or train generalized AI and/or ML models for eGUARD or any third party. When local AI features are used, email content is processed on your device and is not used for training AI models. If you choose to use a cloud-based AI model, your data will be subject to the chosen provider's privacy policy, but eGUARD itself does not use your Google Workspace data for its own AI/ML model training or development.

How do we protect your information?

We use Firestore as a database to store account data, and Firebase Authentication for user accounts (Your eGUARD account password is stored in a hashed format). Industry best practices are used, see{" "} https://firebase.google.com {" "} for more information.

We do not transfer or disclose your personal information to third parties except as explicitly described in this Privacy Statement (Squarespace for website form submissions, Firebase for account data storage, or your chosen cloud AI provider if you opt-in).

How can you revoke access to your information?

You can manage your data through Account settings in the extension. Additionally, you can delete your account, along with all associated data at any time by contacting us at{" "} privacy@eguard.app

Changes to our Privacy Statement

We may update this privacy statement periodically. Users will be notified of any significant changes. We encourage you to review this statement regularly to stay informed about how we are protecting your information.
